Belgian eID project
The contract with the Belgian federal government for the production of the Belgian electronic identity card (eID) puts Certipost in a unique position as service provider, project manager and architect of confidentiality services for the Belgian government.
The green light for the introduction of eID was issued at the end of 2002. Today Belgium leads the way in this domain within Europe. eID in Belgium forms the basis of communication between the citizens and government institutions. However, commercial companies can also save on costs by using eID. With its unequivocal expertise and sophisticated range of eID products, Certipost is the partner of choice for your eID project. e-Signing
Certipost developed a user-friendly service for eID for inserting digital signatures with the same legal value as a handwritten signature. Moreover, this service is independent of the format of the information to be signed.

You can purchase a certificate and credits for e-Signing from our webshop.
eID logon and data capture
Based on its e-Access solution, Certipost has developed a user-friendly application for logging on to websites, using the eID card. Integrating this service into your website is easy. It confirms the identity of any person trying to log on and enables you to read data (such as address details) from the eID card. Certipost takes care of all the technical complexities, so you can very easily protect your website with eID authentication, while assuring users that their privacy is respected.
A few project examples:
- eBay users can have their identity verified by means of their eID card, which leads to increased confidence and trust among users.
- Doctors can safely order medical certificates via the MedAttest website, using the Certipost eID logon service.
- Private individuals can use their eID card to register for myCertipost and to gain access to their secure mailbox.
Complementary range
The eID is produced using information from the national register database. This does not contain information such as the e-mail address, professional capacity or company name. Since this kind of information is sometimes necessary, Certipost can create a complementary range of certificates for you on various carriers (e.g. Smartcard or USB token). For more information on this, go to www.certipost.be/e-certificates.
