Certipost plays key role in the development of the new electronic foreigner card
On Wednesday 9 July 2008, the Minister for Migration and Asylum Policy Annemie Turtelboom issued the new electronic foreigner card in the municipality of Retie. With this the Minister gave the green light for the general introduction of this new card in all of Belgium.
Certipost, which has also earlier worked on developing the electronic identity card that has in the meantime been issued to 7.5 million Belgians, is once again the supplier of the two certificates contained on the foreigner card. The certificates enable innumerable applications including the electronic signing of documents, access to websites and applications etc. …
After a successful pilot phase, the cards will be distributed to about 760,000 foreign nationals. With this project, Belgium is again the international leader in the area of eID applications. The electronic cards help simplify administrative procedures and are a handy tool in the fight against fraud and criminal activities.
