Electronic VAT declaration now also mandatory for SMEs
De Post/La Poste launches e-Certificates campaign
De Post/La Poste launches a campaign informing SMEs and self-employed workers about the e-Certificates issued by its subsidiary Certipost. The trigger for this campaign is the obligation for small companies to submit their VAT declarations electronically as of April 2009. Certipost, specialised in secure electronic document exchange, issues digital certificates that enable companies to comply with this new requirement.
As of April 2009, all Belgian companies will be required to file their VAT declarations electronically. This means that small businesses, which submit their VAT declarations on a quarterly basis, will have to do so via Intervat, the online application of the federal public service Finance. With a Certipost digital business certificate, they are ready for this new way of working. An e-Certificate provides the holder with proof of his business identity, linking him to the company where he works and enabling him to act on behalf of that company, for example, to file annual accounts and VAT declarations, or to sign contracts electronically.
“Ordering a certificate at Certipost is a quick and easy process,” says Certipost CEO Stijn Vander Plaetse. “Our certificates are moderately priced and offer businesses huge benefits in terms of the many ways they can be used to exchange electronic documents securely. We see it as an important first step towards simplifying administrative red tape – and the savings in time and money that go with it.”
Small investment, big benefits
From now until 28th February 2009, Certipost is offering a 21% discount on the purchase of e-Certificates with a 5-year validity period. This means that businesses can get a Certipost certificate for as little as €50 a year. Bookkeepers or accountants submitting VAT declarations on behalf of their clients are also entitled to this discount. Certificates can be purchased online at www.certipost.be and are delivered to your home address.
Certipost e-Certificates also provide users with access to a whole range of other online government applications. More and more declarations have to be filed electronically, including annual accounts, payroll tax records, Customs and Excise declarations, etc. Working electronically is secure, fast and inexpensive. In addition senders receive immediate confirmation of receipt for all the declarations.
Certipost e-Certificates meet all statutory requirements for placing electronic signatures that have the same legal value as a handwritten signature. Certipost guarantees the business identity of the signatory. This way, he can act on behalf of his company and, for example, in his role of Purchase Manager, electronically sign legally binding contracts or purchase orders or sign, send and archive invoices.
